Attention all Students and Parents
It is expected that students will use this site to stay current on all classroom activities. When a student is absent, they should take the necessary steps to get caught up and be ready for class when they return.

School Year 2011-2012
Another school year begins!!! Each year since I have been teaching, I have tried to include at least one additional form of technology for myself, my students, and their parents to use as part of my classes. This year I am adding this website and blogs for each of the courses that I am teaching. As we all progress into using technology resources more and more, I think it is only logical to help students and parents alike (as well as myself) to become more familiar with how that technology can be used in education.
Of course, I will still incorporate much of the technology we have used in the past - in addition to other new digital resources. Some examples include (but are not limited to):
Using this website
Bobcat Labs provides different education to four different groups of scientists and researchers, these are: 5th Grade Science, 6th Grade Science, 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Research (Introduction to Engineering), and the Bitburg Middle School Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Club. Resources shared by all of those groups will be available on this HOME page. However, each of those groups also need various different resources. For those different groups, the resources they needs can be found by going to the appropriate page link at the top of each Bobcat Labs pages. I will also be entering daily information about what was done in class on the blogs for each class, which are sub-pages of each class page. For instance, if a 6th grade scientist needs a printout of something that is exclusively for 6th grade science, it can be found by following the link [Science 6]. Whereas, if a 5th grade scientist missed class due to a dentist appointment, they could follow the link [Sci5 Blog] to learn what was done in that class that day, what assignments were given, and where to find any materials they might need. The same is true for my Research Class and for the Science & Technology Club.
Science/Research Notebooks
I truly believe that the best way to learn science, forms of research, and design is to DO science, forms of research, and design. Otherwise, it is nothing but dry, complex information about the way things work. It is far more interesting to actually experience how things work. However, scientists and researchers don't simply do their work just for the experience, there is method behind the madness. A major portion of that method is that scientists record what they experience. In the past, I have required my students to maintain a science/research notebook. That will still be a requirement, though I experiment with different ways they can be maintained.
Classroom Expectations
In the Bobcat Labs classroom, I hold all of the scientists/researchers (ie., students) in the highest regard. Please note that does not mean that I am lenient in my expectations for professionalism, diligence, safety, and overall behavior. In fact, it likely raises those expectations.
In Bobcat Labs, I expect the following:
